04 — Our story
Urban Tandoor started in 2016 with one clay oven, two cooks and a rule we still keep: if it isn’t cooked over charcoal, it doesn’t leave the pass. What began as a takeaway window on a quiet lane is now a 40-seat grill room with a rooftop and the loudest open kitchen in Bandra West.
We still hand-grind masala every morning, marinate overnight and refuse to rush a braise. The music is loud, the smoke is real, and the last order goes out at 1 AM.

The seekh kebab here ruined every other kebab for me. Smoky, juicy, and the naan arrives so fast it’s almost rude.
Rooftop, loud music, cold lassi and a mixed grill platter. This is my default Friday plan now. Book ahead or you’ll be waiting.
As a food writer I eat a lot of biryani. The clay-pot dum here is the real thing — saffron, restraint, and a raita that actually tastes of something.
